Getting ready

Getting ready

This week the wedding guide has a supplier shout out for my lovely friend and incredibly talented chef, Fiona from Indulge in cakes!

I first met Fiona during the pandemic when we both volunteered in our local community, her cakes, platters of sandwiches and scones are truly spectacular. Last week she dropped off a beautiful afternoon tea for our recent wedding anniversary and we had a quick chat about the upcoming wedding season. We both get booked up quickly and will be spending the next few months in an endless swirl of parties, christenings, and weddings!

The morning of a wedding is usually the most chaotic part of the day (and the best bit in my opinion!) Depending on where you are getting ready, you might be fortunate enough to have a kind friend or relative who is happy to organise tea, snacks and most importantly, prosecco, but if not, it might fall to you as the bride to plan out some options.

One thing that both Fiona and I agree on, is it really helps to have lots of little things that can be eaten easily, no matter how nervous you are. It’s also a good idea to have things which aren’t too sticky or messy, sausage rolls, vegetable platters or bread sticks with humus all work really well. Small fairy cakes are always really popular, as are empire biscuits and tray bakes. In addition to prosecco (or champagne!) it’s a good idea to have soft drinks and plenty of water (especially in the summer). A box of paper straws (so much easier once your makeup is done) and lots of napkins!

A lot of brides find it really hard to eat much at all on the morning of the wedding, I’ve had a lot of ladies tell me they haven’t even managed half a piece of toast because they are just far too excited! If you think you might find it really hard to eat much, it’s worth planning something that you know you will be able to eat easily and will give you plenty of energy, even if you can only manage a few bites.

So my top tip this week is to have a think about what is going to work for you and your bridal party, how long will it be before you sit down for dinner and check out Indulge in cakes (link is in the comments) for details of their packages and availability.
